No longer afraid of my sewing machine thanks to Mary Ann’s Beginners sewing machine lesson. Learned a lot in the three hours and met some lovely people – bonus! A friendly and relaxed atmosphere awaits you. Thank you so much !Sarah Newton
Would recommend this session to anyone who has a sewing machine languishing in the corner but does not have a clue what to do with it!
A very friendly and relaxed environment with patient and thorough instruction.
Highly recommended by this total beginner 😊 Thank you.
A massive thank you for a lovely morning learning lots of new hems and stitches. Big thank you for your patience and the loan of your sewing machine! I took my Nan’s apart when I got home and it’s now working like a dream! Can’t wait to book my next set of lessons and pick a project…. a feel a summer dress coming on! Highly recommended and much love to the beautiful Lilly and Marmite who keep your feet and lap warm as you sew! XTracey Stafford
I did a Sewing machine basics lesson today and now I feel so much more confident in being able to use my machine and not be afraid of it, from learning how to thread it and wind a bobbin to sewing different seams, hopefully I will be following this up with more lessons very soon.Mich Preston
We did the Beginners Sewing Machine lesson and we learnt a lot in the three hours, how to set up and use a machine and some basic stitching. The pace of the lesson was relaxed and friendly, would thoroughly recommend it.Neil Gardner
I first attended Beginners Sewing Machine Skills which gave me the confidence to actually use my sewing machine having bought it years previously. MaryAnne is a mine of information, she’s patient and no question is a silly question. The classes are welcoming, relaxed and friendly.Maria
MaryAnne has a great width and depth of knowledge and is ever willing to share this with us students with great patience and humour. She makes everything seem possible (sewing-wise at least) …… and I always look forward to our Monday morning sewing classes.Cheryl Keene
I’ve just finished a sewing machine basics workshop (Beginners Sewing Machine Skills) and feel much more equipped to have a crack at some projects! The pace was great, I was able to ask lots of questions (it had been 25 years since I last used a machine!) and I was even able to kickstart a little bag for my daughter. Thank you!Carolyn Ley
Thank you so much for such a great morning. I left with so much more confidence and full of enthusiasm to get stuck in. Your approach was relaxed and you were happy to answer all our questions. Since attending I’ve made a start on some small projects and I’m really proud of my efforts. Thank you for giving me such a good start for my new hobby.Karen Amor
Just took this class yesterday (it was ‘Sew a Skirt in a Day) with Mary Anne Robbins. This was my second lesson and as a really green beginner, I feel more confident and knowledgeable about sewing. I still have a ways to go before I’m fluent, but Mary Anne makes you feel comfortable and eager to learn. Mary Anne has a wealth of knowledge that can transform the ordinary to the extraordinary. She is a patient teacher who explains things so that you fully understand. At the end of any lesson the enthusiasm that you have and the confidence to put what you’ve just learned into practice is very rewarding. I’m looking forward to my next class and if you’ve ever thought you might want to learn to sew, I highly recommend Mary Anne’s Beginners course as your starting point. You wont be disappointed.Monica Grove
Great tuition, I was a complete beginner and I have come away feeling confident that I can begin some basic projects and feeling enthusiastic, I will certainly be booking further workshops to get some more fabulous tuition.Sally
Thanks for today Mary Anne – I’ve been practicing this afternoon and made some little bags for the children which they’re very pleased with! Definitely book you in for another lesson soon. Thanks again.Alison
The course is great , I am an absolute beginner, but have already made 2 cushion covers and a pair of curtains. Mary Anne is very patient and an excellent tutor.Sharon

Make an Oil Cloth Bag: I went along to this course to learn how to use a difficult fabric. I found MaryAnne so helpful. She was happy to let me work at my own pace, but was on hand if help were needed. I really recommend this course.
Good fun and interesting. I learnt so much on my first lesson with Sewing Seams Easy. I enjoyed it so much that I have booked for another 6 lessons. It was friendly and welcoming and in a relaxed atmosphere. Cant wait for more!
Brilliant sewing lesson today, learnt so much, lovely group of ladies too. Thank you so much. See you at the next lesson.
I went along to ‘Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine’ this morning and had a great time. Mary Anne Robbins is a brilliant teacher and breaks everything down into simple steps. She’s great fun and full of inspiration! I hadn’t used a sewing machine in over 30 years but now I’m off to buy a simple pattern to try out. Highly recommended.
Had my first lesson with Mary Anne – what a patient and kind lady! I told her about my past experience of sewing (involving a machine bursting into flames) and her faith in me didn’t waver! She talked me through all the basics and did not make me feel stupid for having little to no knowledge. Fantastic evening with fantastic ladies – Gail was also very supportive. I have now signed up to a monthly subscription and am looking forward to going back next week to learn more tricks of the trade!
Very worthwhile. I had a few specific reasons for needing to take this course and all of them were tackled very pleasantly. I was made to feel welcome by the instructor and the other attendees, and would not hesitate to go again but for the time it took to get there (an hour and a half on the M4) But it was well worth doing as I learnt all that I wanted to, and more besides, from one morning. Wish I lived close enough to attend on a more regular basis.
Thank you Mary Anne for your time and tuition yesterday. You will be pleased to hear that I have completed another bag today – I followed your advice about making the base circle a little smaller – and it was a little easier. … and I am not scared of the sewing machine any more – hooray! I will keep an eye on your website and facebook pages and get back in touch if I am able to come to anything else in future.

This is a lovely class, the small group are friendly and the tutor is great. MaryAnne not only gives great guidance but will also let you get on with the task in hand. If you are considering going to this class I would say book now you will not be sorry.
Easy, versatile, quick results and fun!
I started the sewing course with the amazing MaryAnne Robbins. She is very talented and experienced teacher and her passion for upcycling is inspiring. I started with small projects and I could see the result straight away… (I am not very patient so I needed to see that i was advancing). The group is normally small, which allows more interaction with the teacher, and the participants made me feel very welcome. If you have been wishing to do sewing for a good while, like me, this is the course for you!!!!
Enjoyed the venue, teacher and fellow sewers very much, thank you Mary Anne for instilling confidence and enthusiasm again.
You’ll be pleased to hear that I have completed the other French Seam, so can’t wait till next Monday to put on the waistband. Hubby was very impressed said it looks like a skirt I would buy at White Stuff!
On the blog!
