Use a ball point or stretch needle, that way the needle won’t pierce the threads but will slide between them. If the fabric is really stretchy a stretch needle will be best.

Use a stretch stitch on your sewing machine and if you don’t have one use a zigzag stitch. You can use an overlocker if you have one.

Use a walking foot, it will stop the fabric stretching too much as you are sewing, you will be less likely to end up with fabric pushed down into the bobbin casing!

If you want to top stitch the hem, neckline or armholes use a ball point twin needle, which works really well with a straight stitch. Otherwise you can use a zigzag stitch on the hems.image
