Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I come to your classes?
I have been sewing since I was a small child (mainly taught by my mother) & running Sewing Seams Easy for the last 7 years. I’ve taught many nervous beginners to sew & I have a mountain of patience, I am passionate about passing on my skills! Some of my clients have gone on to do a Post Graduate Diploma in fashion & design, sew beautiful soft furnishings & beautiful clothes, also mending/altering/upcycling items.
How will you help me?
I will suggest a class that I think is suitable for your level of experience. Provide you with a list of the fabric/pattern/notions that you need to buy.
If you are going to make a garment for yourself, I will happily measure you which will help with getting the correct fit. Show you what to do and how to do it at each stage of your sewing journey.
How much will it cost?
Beginners Sewing Machine Skills costs £35 for 3 hours tuition in a small group.
The weekly sewing groups are £15 for 1x2hr session, £80 for 6x2hr sessions or £120 for 12x2hr sessions.
Classes to make a particular item or to learn a particular skill are listed on the Classes page.
What happens if I can’t come to a class?
4 weeks or more: If you cancel your booking due to unforeseen circumstances, you will receive a refund in full – provided the cancellation is at least 4 weeks before the start of the course. This allows for time to re-advertise and fill the place.
Why not join us?
I have a simple dream: transforming the drab into fab with an arsenal of needles and thread. I often shop in charity shops, car boot sales, flea markets and antique stores with an eye for repurposing the objects I find.
I’ve made clothes and soft furnishings for people since I was a young child, starting off with dressing my dolls!
My Mum taught me to sew and I also had some lessons at school but mostly it’s been a case of passion joined with practice.
See you soon.
I recently attended the Beginners workshop. I had a great time, and achieved all sorts of sewing: from seams to hems.
I will certainly be signing up for the follow on sessions.
I thoroughly recommend Mary Anne, fantastic tutor!
I went along to ‘Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine’ this morning and had a great time. Mary Anne Robbins is a brilliant teacher and breaks everything down into simple steps. She’s great fun and full of inspiration!
I hadn’t used a sewing machine in over 30 years but now I’m off to buy a simple pattern to try out. Highly recommended.
I have just completed the zips for the terrified course – what a revelation!
They are no longer scary!
Great course in a relaxed atmosphere.
